Collect Napier Sticks: Gather healthy Napier grass sticks or stems from established Napier grass plants. Choose stems that are about 1-2 inches in diameter and approximately 2-3 feet long. Make sure the sticks are disease-free and free from any signs of damage. Prepare the Planting Site: Select a sunny location for planting Napier grass. Ensure the soil is well-drained and rich in organic matter. Clear the area of any weeds or vegetation, and loosen the soil to a depth of about 6-8 inches. Cut the Sticks: Cut the Napier sticks into smaller sections, each about 1.5 to 2 feet in length. Make the cuts just below a node or a bud on the stick. Nodes are the areas on the stem where leaves emerge. Prepare the Sticks for Planting: Remove any leaves or side branches from the bottom 6-8 inches of each Napier stick. This section will be buried in the soil for rooting. If there are any damaged or diseased portions, cut them off to prevent the spread of infection. Plant the Sticks: Dig holes in the prepared planting area, spacing them about 2-3 feet apart. Each hole should be deep enough to accommodate the buried portion of the Napier stick. Place the prepared sticks in the holes vertically, with the bottom end inserted into the soil.
