How to prepare beds for chili cultivation?
Share
Farmers must consider assessing soil quality before bed preparation. The organic carbon content of bed soil should be ideally 1%. Considering the fact that most soils have organic content below 0.1%, it is not possible to fill the gap at once. Farmers should be opportunistic to amend completely decomposed manure of any origin. While preparing beds for chili cultivation, the application of 4-5 MT per acre of organic manure is recommended. Organic manure should be enriched with quality cultures of Trichoderma, Paecilomyces, and Beauveria. In addition to this apply (per acre) DAP 100 kg, 10-26-26 50 kg, MOP 50 kg, 90 % Sulfur WDG 3 Kg, deoiled Neem/Pongamia/Castor seed cake 100 kg, balanced micronutrient mixture 10-20 kg. In case quality cultures of microorganisms are not available, farmers should spread 500-gram commercial fungicide and 1 lit commercial insecticide in bed soil by dissolving these chemicals in 200 lit water.
Prepare 4 feet beds, arrange drip lateral and cover the bed with mulching paper. Mulching should be punched in a zig-zag method at a distance of 4/5 feet x 1.5 feet.
