SHAPAT as Soybean Herbicide

SHAPAT as Soybean Herbicide

Weeds pose a significant threat to crops, including soybean, which is a crucial commercial crop in India. Without proper care, weeds can cause significant yield loss, making it essential for farmers to use herbicides.

However, uisng herbicides with single active ingredient often face problem of herbicide resistance. Using such herbicides can result in increase in expense, wastage of time and energy.

Farmers with better vision use herbicides with two active ingredients. Fortunately, such herbicides are available in market. Here we discuss a wonderful herbicide Sahapat by Parijat.

Shapat contains two active ingredients viz. Sodium Acifluorfen 16.5% and Clodinafop Propargyl 8% in EC formula. The brand is available in pack size of 200ml, 400ml, 1L

For use, mix 400ml Shapat in 200L of water and spray at 2-4 leaf weed stage using a Knapsack sprayer. This dose is for one acre.

Shapat has some wonderful features:
  • It is a broad-spectrum, systemic, selective, post-emergence herbicide
  • It has no residual effect on follow crops
  • It belongs to Diphenolic ether and Aryloxyphenoxy propionate (Fop) class of herbicides, which inhibits the grassy as well as broad leaf weeds.
  • It shows quick result and action starts within 1 hour of application. Broad leaf weeds die in 3 days where as grasses die in 7 day.
  • SHAPAT sprayed crop shows bronzing in one of trifoliate leaves in Soybean which recover within few days.
  • SHAPAT can be applied between 15 to 25 days after sowing of soybean.
  • SHAPAT does not require any spreader and booster.
  • It has very good rain fastness and it is effective even if rains 2hrs after application.

How is Shapat, so much powerful?

SHAPAT is absorbed by the leaves and roots, translocated to the growing points of weed. It inhibits the enzyme acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACC-ase) and interferes with the production of fatty acids. It also destroys cell membrane thus makes cell content leak. It stops the synthesis of fatty acids/lipids in the plant essential for the growth, thereby the Yellowing followed by browning and dry-up of weed.

How to make best use of Shapat?

It can be used as foliar spray by using Knapsack Sprayers fitted with Flat Fan or Flood Jet Type of Nozzle. Add recommended quantity of Shapat Solution into a bucket half-filled with water and mixed well. Add remaining recommended water and spray. Spray uniformly over the entire field without overlapping. Time of Application is between 15 to 25 days after sowing when weeds are in 2-4 leaf stage

How to be safe and profitable while spraying Shapat?

Sufficient soil moisture is required during spray and do not repeat the spray in same crop.  Do not spray during Foggy climate. Apply right dose at recommended time. Wear safety equipment’s such as gloves, aprons, masks, etc. Use Knapsack Sprayers fitted with Flat Fan or Flood Jet Type of Nozzle and spray in the direction of wind. Avoid drift of spray into adjoining crop field. Do not smoke, drink, eat and chew anything while spraying. Avoid contact with mouth, eyes and skin. Avoid inhalation the spray mist, fog and vapors. Please note that there is no specific antidote is known. Treatment should be symptomatic.
